Stanislaus State Hosts United Black Student Unions of California, Extends Generous Offer to Attendees
Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders with University Initiative Enhancing Access and Community Engagement for Central Valley Youth
Turlock, CA (11/24/2023) — California State University, Stanislaus proudly hosted the United Black Student Unions of California (UBSUC) Central Region event on Nov 17. The event brought together high school students from across the Central Valley for a day of empowerment, education and community building.
In a personal message to attendees, Stanislaus State's Interim President Sue Borrego shared valuable advice for the next generation of leaders. "You want people to know your name. Take your space, fill your space and hold your space. You can't control situations, but you can control how you react. And it's important to identify the people who support you."
The UBSUC event featured a series of workshops, discussions and activities aimed at fostering leadership skills, cultural awareness and networking opportunities for Black students in the region. Stanislaus State is honored to play a pivotal role in supporting the educational and personal development of these young leaders.
Underscoring the University's commitment to fostering access to higher education, Interim President Borrego announced a special initiative for attendees of the event. Any student affiliated with a Black Student Union (BSU) in attendance will be eligible for a $500 waiver should they choose to enroll at Stanislaus State.
This generous offer emphasizes Stan State's dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, particularly those from underrepresented communities. By providing financial support, the University aims to remove barriers and make higher education more accessible to talented and motivated students.
"We are thrilled to host the United Black Student Unions of California at Stan State and to extend this special opportunity to students who may choose to join our vibrant campus community," Interim President Borrego said. "We believe in the transformative power of education and are dedicated to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow who will, in turn, enrich the fabric of our communities."
The UBSUC event at Stan State was a landmark occasion, fostering collaboration and empowering the next generation of leaders. The University looks forward to welcoming high school students from across the Central Valley and continuing its mission to provide high-quality education that is accessible to all.
