Warrior's Powerful Project Sheds Light on Project Rebound and Honors Formerly Incarcerated Students
Stanislaus State graduate student and art teacher Sarah Graham's thesis project focuses on art programs' role in reducing recidivism rates and addressing social and emotional needs of former inmates. Drawing on her experiences as an art teacher at Sierra Conservation Center, a correctional facility in Tuolumne County, Graham partnered with the University's Project Rebound, which provides support and resources to formerly incarcerated individuals who aspire to furthering their education. Graham and Project Rebound students created a metal sculpture of a phoenix, a mythical bird, featuring inspirational quotes from the program's participants.
